This is the story of one of the founding companies of the digital revolution in sound, video and film, and 3D animation.  Begun in 1989, by Daniel Kramer and Christopher Hyun, GLC Productions would become a leader in every business niche it entered, winning awards in a dizzying array of pursuits including the music business, the independent film industry, television, advertising, and 3D animation.

The first company to apply digital sound techniques designed for music recording and mixing to post production sound for film and video, GLC pushed the envelope of nascent computer tools, proving their ability to be adapted to synchronize soundtracks to film and video.  An early adopter of Digidesign ProTools and Avid Media Composer, GLC combined the use of these production tools paving the way for those who came later and began the revolution and development of the recording and editing computer platform that has become the de facto standard for professional post production in the international film and video industry today.  Film and television festivals all over the world gave accolades to countless independent films and TV shows emanating out of GLC's digital studios in lower Manhattan.  GLC Productions helped launch the careers of many of today's well known producers and directors.  This first successful encounter with digital production would soon be repeated in other areas of the entertainment business.

GLC earned a historic place in the NYC music business during the very early days of rap and became a favored recording studio of the early heroes of 1990s rap musicians, recording gold and platinum records for an endless parade of talented rap artists and musicians.  Many musicians and vocalists got their start in recording sessions at GLC Productions, going on to become superstars and household names.

A groundbreaking digital boutique creating 3D animated content, GLC also beta tested 3D visualization software systems helping develop what would become SGI/Alias Wavefront MAYA.  GLC hosted the largest render farm in Manhattan, linking 29 SGI origin servers with Craylink, and custom software programming for distributed rendering, to turn out final masters for numerous 3D animated films and shows, including an original series titled The Buddy System, which swept the film festivals, NATPE, MIPCOM and took the digital production world by storm, being ultimately picked up by Sony Entertainment.  GLC's pioneering content was used as proof of concept for high definition equipment at NAB for JVC and Panasonic.  A David among entertainment industry Goliaths, GLC Productions helped usher in the age of digital production with fearless innovation and creative use of computers and traditional production tools, regularly sharing the spotlight with the biggest brands in the business.

This website is an attempt to capture what was a special time in New York City -- the last great era of creativity and artistic expression in the Village.  Following a great tradition of Greenwich Village writers, artists, free thinkers and free spirits, GLC Productions thrived in the culmination of a freely creative environment that is now gone, never to be seen again.  This is the story of GLC Productions.
